Role Responsibilities
Power Plant – Oversee operations of this unit including:
Supervise team of Unionized Power Plant Operators (Class 2 and 3)
Manage equipment operation with compliance of all internal/external regulatory rules and guidelines
Maintain availability of steam, water, air to plant operating areas
Identify process/maintenance problems and solve with assistance of other ADL resources
Oversee outside contracting activities
Prepare/review/maintain operational budgets and expenditures
Review S.O.P.’s and keep up-to-date
Initiate incident reports with corrective actions for events occurring within the Department
Provide information for process improvements and capital projects
Participate in ADL Safety Metrics program
Supervise utility supplies and usage:
Advise on contracts for gas/electricity
Monitor usages by operating area
Develop in-house training with staff and plant employees
Monitor daily, monthly and annual usage of utilities (natural gas, water, electricity, effluent)and establish appropriate systems to measure
Report deviations, assist in determination of cause and correct or assist in rectifying problem
Recommend opportunities to reduce utility consumption and/or reduce costs
Continuous improvement initiatives
Promote and drive a strong safety and 5S culture in the department
Support TRACC initiatives
Maintain inventory/ordering of chemicals and consumables for Steam Plant
Routine analysis of Steam Plant performance
Identify and create requests for repairs (strong ability to troubleshoot, both electrical and mechanical).
Assist in maintenance planning for shutdown periods and provide operation support during shutdown.
Manage SAP work orders and purchase orders related to Steam Plant
Be available on rotating, on-call basis
Use appropriate root cause problem solving (RCPS) techniques to help with operational improvements.
Providing permits for contractor work
Other projects/duties as may be assigned from time to time
Facilities Maintenance
Schedule and coordinate any services required by external vendors including landscaping, snow removal, fire suppression, roofing, HVAC and other services
Develop work standards and assignments for work activities, based on work priority, quantity of equipment and skill of personnel
Conduct regular site inspections ensuring building and equipment meets scheduled and periodic maintenance requirements
Respond to emergency conditions and building emergency calls
Qualifications
- Active member of ABSA, 3rd Class Operating Engineers License for Alberta
- 5 to 8 years of Supervisory experience in production process, preferably in food/beverage or chemical industry
- Union exposure, preferably in a supervisory role
- Intermediate to advance knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and SAP
- Demonstrated ability to use problem solving/root cause analysis tools
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Highly motivated, requiring minimal supervision
